New Projects Seeking Postdocs

We have two new projects starting in ~March 2024 that are seeking postdocs. The first is a NASA-funded collaboration with Pablo Saide and Elsa Ordway to hone our predictions of smoke emissions and transport from wildfires in California, considering variation in fuel types and moisture status. We will be evaluating and further developing wildfire behavior and emissions from the FATES-SPITFIRE model, including feedbacks between fire and vegetation structure in Sierra forests and Southern California chaparral ecosystems. The second project is a collaboration with Winslow Hansen, Anna Trugman, Brian Harvey, and others to improve predictions of forest resilience to wildfire in the Western US. We are leading distributed field experiments to examine global change effects on post-fire forest regeneration, as well as targeted FATES modeling to pinpoint the most important uncertainties for predicting future regeneration. If you’re interested in either of these positions, contact Lara directly via email (lmkueppers@berkeley.edu).
